Alcona County VINE Coverage
Michigan VINE is a free, confidential custody and case-information service. Official Michigan material describes alerts for county-jail release, transfer, and escape, as well as MDOC general-release events. Bond release and court-ordered discharge can also be among automated events. What appears for one Alcona County person depends on the agency that participates and supplies the data.
This point matters because the Alcona Sheriff’s corrections page says the local jail does not house people overnight. A person may complete local booking and bond processing, or may be transported to Iosco County Jail. When Alcona is unstaffed, an arrest can be lodged directly in Iosco. A missing Alcona VINE result therefore does not prove release. Search the actual custodian and confirm the movement path with the Sheriff.
Michigan also developed RegistrationLink to associate records as people move between a county jail and state prison and to link court-case information. That cross-system design can preserve a notification relationship as custody changes. It does not turn VINE into a permanent archive or guarantee that every event is available.
The Michigan State Police Sex Offender Registry is a separate system. It applies only when a person has a statutory registration duty and is not a VINE substitute or general released-inmate list. A registry match does not supply the sheriff's release timestamp. Absence from that registry says nothing about whether a person was arrested, held, released, or placed on parole.
Check an Alcona County Inmate
Begin with the direct Michigan VINELink interface. Search one person at a time. An offender or booking identifier is stronger than a common name, but the exact inputs can vary with the reporting source. Do not register against the first same-name result.
- Open Michigan VINE or select Michigan from the general VINELink site.
- Choose the offender or person search offered by the interface.
- Enter the full name or available offender or booking identifier. Use the identifier when possible.
- Compare the reporting agency or facility and all identifying details shown. Resolve multiple matches before continuing.
- Open the custody or status panel and read the agency-reported event in context.
- Confirm a release through Alcona, Iosco, MDOC, or the other custodian when a transfer or hold is possible.

Note: A correct name without a matching agency or identifier is not enough to select a VINE custody record.
Alcona VINE Release Fields
The visible fields and exact event wording depend on what the participating agency sends. Stable official material does not promise a fixed archive period for an already-released result. Treat each result as an agency-reported status event, then obtain the custodian's movement record when the time and destination must be proved.

A “released” label is evidence that the supplying agency closed its custody event. It is not proof that no other agency took custody. An Alcona booking may close when Iosco accepts the person, just as a jail episode can close through an MDOC, federal, ICE, warrant, or detainer pickup.

Register Alcona County Release Alerts
Register only after matching the person and reporting custodian. Michigan's official VINE material describes phone, email, and text channels. The offered method can depend on the event and interface. Keep the confirmation because it ties the alert to the selected record.
- Select notification registration on the matched record and choose the offered event and contact method.
- For a phone alert, create a four-digit PIN that can be entered when VINE calls.
- When a call arrives, listen to the message and enter the PIN followed by the pound sign to confirm receipt and stop repeats.
- For email or text, complete the contact confirmation shown by the service. Those channels do not use a phone PIN.
- Save the registration confirmation and update the contact information when a number or address changes.
The official brochure says a phone call can repeat until the PIN is entered or for up to 24 hours. Pressing zero can reach an operator for PIN reset or cancellation. Email and text send one message for each reported status or court-event change. The public service number is 800-770-7657, and TTY is 866-847-1298.
Registration does not change a release decision or create a right to confidential case details. It connects a contact method to events the participating source sends. If a notice seems late or inconsistent, do not alter the registration based on guesswork. Check the selected record, confirm that the phone or address is current, and contact the VINE service for registration help. Custody questions still belong with the agency holding the person.
Note: Keep the PIN private, but make sure the registered phone can receive repeated calls until the notice is confirmed.
Confirm Alcona County VINE Events
A notification may lag the physical event. VINE is useful for notice, but no automated service should be the sole emergency plan. For an Alcona County arrest, call the Sheriff and ask whether the person posted bond, was lodged in Iosco, or moved to another agency. If Iosco held the person overnight, its release record is needed to establish the final departure from jail custody.
For a Michigan prison case, use OTIS. Read status and sentence dates together. PAROLE means release from secure prison custody while supervision continues. DISCHRG means the listed MDOC jurisdiction ended. A county-jail-only case may never appear in OTIS, so an empty search cannot confirm an Alcona release.
Federal sentences belong in the Bureau of Prisons locator. Federal pretrial custody can be controlled by the U.S. Marshals Service and a local holding facility. Immigration custody belongs in ICE's locator. These federal systems do not feed a complete Alcona County history into VINE.
VINE also cannot resolve every old event. A court case, sheriff release or movement record, and OTIS record are stronger historical sources. When two systems conflict, compare their update times and ask the agency that physically held the person for the entry that closed custody. The answer may be release to the community, transport, or transfer. Those outcomes must not be merged.
Michigan Release Notification Layers
VINE registration is one notice layer. People eligible for additional statutory MDOC victim notices concerning parole hearings or decisions can contact the MDOC Crime Victim Notification Unit at 877-886-5401. That unit's process is distinct from ordinary public VINE registration and should not be treated as the same alert list.
The Michigan Parole Board process is also separate. A routine parole interview is not necessarily public, and the limited public-hearing notice page covers lifer-law, commutation, and pardon hearings rather than all parole reviews. A hearing or favorable decision does not establish that physical release occurred. OTIS may later show the date paroled, while the prison movement record is the formal source for the actual event.
These layers answer different needs: VINE sends agency-reported custody change alerts, MDOC statutory notices serve eligible recipients, OTIS displays public corrections status, and a sheriff or MDOC record proves the event. Keeping them separate prevents a notification from being overstated.
For a Michigan prison release, the OTIS field Date Paroled is stronger historical evidence than a remembered alert, while the MDOC record is the formal source. For an Alcona County bond release, the sheriff's bond-out or movement entry controls the local event. If the person went to Iosco, the Iosco record controls the later departure from overnight custody. VINE can alert across parts of that chain, but it does not merge the agencies into one release certificate.
Alcona VINE Transfer Checks
The Alcona and Iosco relationship is the key county-specific limit. Alcona County Jail is a limited booking-and-bond point and does not house people overnight. A person who cannot post bond is transported to Iosco County Jail, and some arrests are lodged there from the start. VINE must be read against that operational route.
If an alert reports an Alcona release or transfer, ask where the person went. “Released to Iosco” means Alcona custody ended, not that the person returned to the community. The Alcona booking or transport entry identifies the handoff. The Iosco admission and later release record document what happened next.
MiCOURT can add the legal reason, such as a bond order, dismissal, time-served sentence, or commitment. The 81st District Court page identifies the local misdemeanor and felony-preliminary route. Yet a court order does not supply the precise physical movement time. The strongest confirmation pairs the VINE event with the custodian's release or movement entry and the relevant court record.
For a same-day check, give the Sheriff the full name and date of birth if known. Ask whether booking occurred in Alcona, whether bond was posted, and whether the person went to Iosco. If staff only say that the person is not currently in Alcona custody, record that narrow answer. It cannot be expanded into proof of community release until the destination is known. When a durable event record is needed, use the Alcona County FOIA hub to request the existing booking or movement entry rather than asking VINE to serve as an archive.
